Solar Powered Yaesu 817nd HF/VHF/UHF Radio

The Yaesu FT-817nd is a portable, low power (QRP), HF/VHF/UHF, all-mode, transceiver.  While running solely off of the built-in battery, the radio is only capable at transmitting with half-power (2.5 Watts).  It required an external power source in order to use the full 5 Watts.

I decided to put together a “go-kit” that would make transporting the radio easy/safe, while also providing power via a solar panel.  I will post a parts list after making some modifications.  Below are a few pictures of my first attempt:

15 Days of Hell Pays Off

Well it’s been a long two weeks but it’s finally over!  Goodbye Plano, TX!  Hello CCNP certification!  I’ve successfully passed all three exams (ROUTE 642-902, SWITCH 642-813, and TSHOOT 642-832) and now plan to study for my CCIE.
